Cheap Tricks Indeed, in Audi’s Insulting “Green Police” Super Bowl Ad
“You picked the wrong day to mess with the ecosystem, plastic boy,” said the enviro-copper to an unwitting shopper who chose plastic over paper. Which ecosystem was Officer Green Shorts referring to? The ocean gyres swirling with garbage, or the already depleted old growth forests? While Audi’s “Green Police” commercial was probably intended to be tongue-in-cheek, some people will digest every last calorie of idiot fodder.
(If you feel the need to view the ad, it’s at the end.)
A Cheap Trick indeed. It’s well and good to jest, but think how many people already believe that environmentalists really want to step into your life and MAKE you lift a finger…or that Stephen Colbert is actually a staunch conservative pundit. Do we really need to give them any more ideas? “Watch out, America. The socialist police state is coming, and the incandescent bulb lighting up your back porch won’t deter the eco-thugs!”
Then again, perhaps that is exactly the kind of farcical theatre that Glenn Beck needs to see. One thing’s for sure, if YOU buy the Audi A3 TDI clean diesel car, you’ll zoom away free from the pagan rabble and into the green future of resurrected 80’s power balads!
Wha happon? Who are they aiming this message at? What kind of feelings is Audi trying to arouse about environmental responsibility? If they’re peddling a “clean diesel” vehicle in that way, I wonder who they are trying to convert.
A sampling of reaction from the anti-eco crowd:
...if you, too, are fed up with curly coiffed 18-year-old boys attempting to tell you to throw trash into the right-colored can and boasting of their ability to get their Prius to coast on the freeway, then the Audi spot might just be for you.
Audi’s Green Police: love it or hate it, that’s what it’s going to be like. Welcome to government interfering in every part of your life

Green Police Audi Commercial. I don’t think we’re too far away from this being the status quo. #libertarian
