The Chinese Tallow Tree, a foreign species, has committed genocide, eradicating almost 99 percent of an ecosystem, the southern coastal prairie. It’s time for drastic measures. The one-percent of this habitat that has survived lies on the brink of death. An aggressive approach is the only option.

Data collected before and after Hurricane Ike shows that the storm destroyed or damaged approximately fifty-percent of Galveston Bay’s oyster reefs, by burying them in sediment that eroded during the storm surge.
